Check IRCTC PNR Status & Booking Confirmation

Live Indian Railways PNR Status for IRCTC Tickets

Welcome to TrainPNRCheck. Are you traveling for a long weekend, festival, work, pilgrimage, or a vacation?

Getting an IRCTC train ticket is just half the battle. The wait for results can be nerve-wracking as you don’t know if your ticket is confirmed or what position on the waiting list you are in.

Our platform reads your status directly from the Indian Railways Passenger Reservation System (PRS), fetching real-time and accurate details from the database for your selected journey.

Worried if you have a WL ticket? Check if your Waiting List (WL) seat will be confirmed with just one click. Instantly find out if your seat is Confirmed or RAC (Reservation Against Cancellation) and check your live Coach & Berth number.

Why Choose Our PNR Status Checker?

  • Fast Results: No Captcha, no registration, no login. Just enter your PNR number and get status in milliseconds.
  • Optimized for Mobiles: Built for slow 2G/3G/4G internet speeds so you can check status while on the go.
  • No History Tracking: We respect your privacy. We never store or share your PNR History.

How to Check IRCTC PNR Status Online (Step by Step)

Finding your IRCTC PNR status is a very easy task. Just follow the 3 steps below:

  1. Get Your PNR Number: The PNR is the unique 10-digit number at the top-left corner of your printed ticket. You can also find it in the SMS sent by IRCTC.
  2. Enter the Number: Enter the 10-digit code in the search box above.
  3. Click "Check Status": Press the button to display the live details fetched from the railway server.
  4. Get Details: View your Booking Status (e.g., GNWL 45) and your Current Status (e.g., RAC 5 or CNF) instantaneously.

Pro Tip: Check the status of your ticket at least 4 hours before departure as this is when the Final Reservation Chart is prepared. That is when most waiting list tickets get confirmed or upgraded to RAC.

What is a PNR Number? (Explanation)

PNR stands for Passenger Name Record. It is a unique 10-digit alphanumeric reference number allocated by the CRIS (Centre for Railway Information Systems) database.

It acts as a digital fingerprint of your journey and consists of crucial information including:

Passenger Details
Name, Age, Gender, and Birth Preference.
Journey Details:
Train Number, Date of Journey, Source, and Destination Station.
Payment Details:
Transaction ID, Transaction Time, Booking Mode (Online/Counter).
Seat Details:
Class (1A, 2A, 3A, SL) and Quota (General, Tatkal, Ladies, etc).

Decoding the First 3 Digits

The first 3 numbers of your PNR denote the Zone (PRS) code of the Railway station where the ticket was booked:

  • 2, 3: NR, NCR, NWR, NER (New Delhi PRS)
  • 4, 5: SR, SWR (Chennai PRS)
  • 6, 7: NFR, ECR, ER, SER, SECR (Kolkata PRS)
  • 8, 9: CR, WCR, WR (Mumbai PRS)
  • 1: SCR (Secunderabad PRS)

Decoding PNR Status Codes & Abbreviations

Indian Railways uses a certain coding language to represent your seat availability. Not knowing these codes can mislead you.

Status Code Full Form Meaning Can You Board?
CNF Confirmed Seat is fully confirmed and allocated. You have a dedicated berth. ✅ Yes
RAC Reservation Against Cancellation Seat is reserved but not confirmed. You have a sitting place (shared berth) but no sleeping berth. ✅ Yes
WL Waiting List Seat is not reserved. You are in a queue. ❌ No (E-ticket only)
GNWL General Waiting List Ticket issued from the source station. Maximum chances of confirmation. ❌ No
RLWL Remote Location Waiting List Issued if you booked from an intermediate station. Harder to confirm. ❌ No
TQWL Tatkal Waiting List Issued for Tatkal tickets. These tickets are never confirmed. ❌ No
PQWL Pooled Quota Waiting List Shared quota for smaller stations. Tickets are hard to confirm. ❌ No
CAN Cancelled Ticket was cancelled by the user or the railway. ❌ No

PNR Prediction & Confirmation Probability

"Will my ticket get confirmed?"

This is a very popular question. We have a PNR Prediction feature which analyzes data to provide an estimated result.

  • Prediction > 75%: Very high probability. You can relax.
  • Prediction 50% - 70%: Fair probability. The ticket may end up in RAC.
  • Prediction < 50%: Very low probability. It is advisable to book a Tatkal ticket.
Factors that affect confirmation:
  1. Total Seats: Total number of coaches available in your class (SL vs 3A).
  2. Cancellations: Historical cancellation records for that particular train.
  3. Season: Festive seasons (Diwali, Holi) have lesser confirmation chances than normal days.

When is the Reservation Chart Prepared?

The status of your ticket changes a lot during chart preparation.

  1. First Chart: Prepared 4 hours before the train departs from the originating station. Unused quotas like HO (High Official), Defense, and Foreign Tourist are released at this time.
  2. Second Chart: Prepared 30 minutes before departure. Last-minute cancellations are taken into account here.
Note: If you have a WL (Waiting List) status after the 2nd Chart, online tickets are automatically refunded, and you cannot travel.

Common Error Messages

Sometimes, you may see an error while checking your status:

  • "Flushed PNR": Ticket is past the journey date (generally 5 days back) and records are cleared.
  • "Invalid PNR": The number entered is incorrect.
  • "Connectivity Failure": IRCTC server is unreachable (generally during maintenance hours: 11:30 PM - 12:30 AM).

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

  • E-Ticket (Online): No. If your ticket status is neither Confirmed nor RAC after charting, it is automatically cancelled. You are not allowed to travel.
  • Counter Ticket (Paper): Yes. You can board the general compartment, but the TTE cannot allot you a reserved seat.

Our prediction is based on historical algorithms and is 85-90% accurate. However, the outcome may change due to unexpected VIP movements and bulk cancellations.

No, your 10-digit PNR number does not change when you change your boarding station or if your ticket status is upgraded from WL to CNF.

Yes. If you don’t have internet access, send PNR <10-digit-number> to 139. Carrier charges apply.

If your online ticket is still waitlisted (WL) after final charting, the ticket is automatically cancelled. The full refund (minus a small clerkage fee) is returned to your bank account in 3-7 working days.
